XPX DC Metro: An Insider’s Look at an ESOP (Hybrid Meeting)

Every business owner considers a multitude of questions when choosing an exit path, including financial reward, effect on employees, company culture, losing control of the business they built and more. Among the exit path options is an ESOP – an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. This approach is a well-known, but perhaps less understood exit choice. Doug Rodgers is the Chairman of FOCUS Investment Banking, an M&A advisory services firm here in the DMV. Approximately 3 years ago, as the leaders of FOCUS considered their own exit path, they made the decision to do an ESOP. Please join us as Doug shares his “insider” perspective on why they decided on an ESOP, key decision factors, effect on the staff and other “lessons learned”.

Douglas E. Rodgers, FOCUS Chairman, served as CEO and Managing Partner from 2001 until late 2018. During his time as CEO, he led the firm’s growth from one office in Washington, DC, to three offices across the US. He has C-level management experience in software, aerospace, e-commerce, manufacturing and distribution, real estate and construction, serving both commercial and government clients. Past roles include President and CEO of Corcentric, Inc, an e-commerce services provider spin off from Litton Enterprise Solutions. CEO of Global Software Corporation, President and CEO of Perfection Equipment Company. Mr. Rodgers is a pilot, with ATP and jet ratings, a BS in Aerospace Engineering, attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and University of Kansas.
