Meli James and Brittany Heyd, Co-Founders of Mana Up

Meli James and Brittany Heyd are co-founders of Mana Up, a Hawaiʻi-based accelerator, venture fund, and retail initiative helping build the state’s next generation of consumer brands.

Meli is also president of the Hawaiʻi Venture Capital Association. Born and raised in Honolulu, Meli spent more than 10 years in Silicon Valley, where she co-founded multiple startups. She has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of five Women to Watch and one of eight Women Leaders Disrupting Entrepreneurship. Meli serves on the boards of UHA Health Insurance and Chaminade University and is a 2020 Omidyar Fellow.

Brittany was previously on the founding team of 1776 and a partner at 1776 Seed Investors, where she helped grow the organization into a global startup platform with programs and events in 75 cities worldwide. She has also worked on business and entrepreneurship initiatives at the White House. Brittany holds a J.D./Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Accountancy from the University of San Diego.
