What you say is what you get

A traveler came upon an old woman selling vegetables by the roadside.

“Grandmother, what sort of people live in the next town?” asked the stranger.

The old woman looked at the traveler. “What were the people like in the town you just came from?” she asked him.

“Oh, They were a bad lot. Troublemakers, and lazy too. The most selfish people in the world, not to be trusted. I was happy to have left.”

“Well, I’m afraid that you’ll find the same sort in the next town,” said the old woman.

Disappointed, the traveler continued on.

Sometime later another traveler came from the same direction and stopped to talk to the old woman selling vegetables by the side of the road.

“Grandmother, what sort of people live in the next town?” asked the stranger.

“What were the people like in the town you just came from?” she asked.

“Oh! They were the most wonderful people. Hardworking, honest, and friendly. I’m sorry to have left that town.”

“Fear not,” said the wise old woman. “You’ll find the same sort in the next town.”
