We're trying out a new format this month in an effort to keep this monthly event fresh and productive!
XPX Nashville member, Lisa Kaufman, a sell-side M&A advisor to family-owned businesses, will be facilitating our "Ask the XPX Cross-Chapter Experts" February session which will call on all of you to help 3 XPX members to resolve a "Current Client/Deal Challenge". This is intended to help foster working relationships as well as to impart knowledge from each XPX discipline (M&A, legal, private wealth, accounting, coaching/consulting, valuations, fractional consultants, banks, etc). Each member on the call will have the opportunity to introduce themselves in the breakout groups as in the prior sessions and to give thoughts on the deal challenge.
If you have a current client or deal challenge that you would like to present to the group, please indicate on your event registration form. Three challenges will be selected to present from the submissions.
Examples of a potential challenges are: 1) a Coach/Consultant working with an owner who spent 30 years building his/her business and is considering when/whether to sell the business. What kind of input can they provide regarding estate planning, market timing, psychological/emotional/family/work-life considerations, planning for investment of proceeds, quality of earnings/valuations, selecting a sell-side advisor, preparing a company for sale—harnessing cost-savings/operations consultants and how do they broach the topics, 2) A private wealth manager is trying to find a way to build a relationship with a potential client that owns a $50 million food distribution company but is has been unable to get financial information and is having a hard time getting into the trusted advisor seat. This potential client is also facing pushback from their children who don’t want the company to be sold. What can the PWM do to build the relationship and covert the prospect to a client? and 3) Two 60ish year-old brothers own 50% each of a $500 million automotive aftermarket business that they built together over the past 20 years. One brother wants to sell the business and has no children involved in the business and the other has a son in his late 20’s who thinks he is ready to take over the business. The discussions between the brothers has become contentious. What can they do to resolve their differences and break the ice?
Here's how our February Cross-Chapter Power Networking works:
- 4:50 - 5:00 pm ET: Welcome and introduction to the first XPX Challenge format and presenters
- 5:00 - 5:15 pm ET: Three XPX volunteers present a 4-minute "Current Client/Deal Challenge" (pre-selected from submissions) to the entire group in the Main Virtual Room
- 5:15 - 5:30 pm ET: Members become the "experts" and will automatically be assigned to a 20-minute breakout room to discuss one of the three challenges (two rooms for each, or six breakout rooms) and have the opportunity to share their ideas/suggestions
- 5:30 - 5:55 pm ET: All members return to the Main Room and each breakout group will have a nominated representative present the input from their discussions and Q&A from the group if time allows
- 5:56 pm ET: Closing Remarks
The Cross-Chapter program is a (virtual) supplement to local XPX Chapter power networking. Please visit your Chapter website for more information. Use this Cross-Chapter option if you want to meet members from other parts of the country. You are welcome to participate in both programs if you want. If you have any questions, please email us.
