MODERATOR:
Carl Nicpon, CEPA
Managing Director
Marsh Creek Advisors
Carl Nicpon was the third-generation owner of a wedding services provider with 14 Atlanta locations and 200 employees. Carl led the effort to sell the 50-year-old business in a private equity roll-up of the industry, and he now uses that first-hand experience in his role as Managing Director at Marsh Creek Advisors, where he helps business owners bring their company to market and negotiate a successful exit.
Carl is also an Adjunct Professor in the Executive MBA program at the University of Georgia and serves on the Board of the Shore Entrepreneurship Center at Kennesaw State University.
PANELISTS:
Alan Mishkoff
Founder & Franchise Owner
Granite Garage Floors
After a 25-year tenure with The Black & Decker/DeWalt company, Alan transitioned to entrepreneurship in 2011. His exposure to the garage flooring business during his time as a vendor to The Home Depot revealed a market dominated by local painters using inferior products. Recognizing this gap, he founded Granite Garage Floors, specializing in the sales and marketing of industrial epoxy coatings for the premium residential segment.
Following significant growth in Atlanta flagship along with his 16 franchise locations, he sold the company in May of 2022 to Threshold Brands a multi-branded home-services franchisor, a portfolio company of The Riverside Company. However, in December 2023, he reacquired the Atlanta franchise based on our commitment to our employees, the brand, and to preserve our local legacy.
Kenny Wheeler
President
Wheeler Services, Inc.
Kenny Wheeler is a native entrepreneur from Atlanta that after finishing high school and bouncing around through a few jobs, decided to establish his own business in the early 80’s. In the early 90s the company was renamed Wheeler Services as other services such as Hardscaping and Commercial Concrete Services were introduced to the customers.
Finally, in early 2021 the landscaping division was sold to an independent group of investors and the remainder of the business providing concrete services was sold to an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).
T. Mack Brown
Founder, CEO
Brownstone
T. Mack Brown attended the United States Air Force Academy and Berry College, majoring in physics and economics. He co-founded Brownstone, a software development company, with two economics professors--and textbook authors--in 1983. Brownstone specialized in software that professors used to create and deliver tests to their students. By the time the company was sold in 2006 in a stock-for-stock deal, Brownstone had created 20 test-generation systems across numerous platforms, and had associated its software with hundreds of textbooks from dozens of higher education publishing companies.
