XPX Dallas - Strategic Options Review: What Makes the Most Sense for the Family Owners and the Company? (Case Study)
Business strategy - the heartbeat of well-run companies, mostly built with the short-term in mind and many peering three-years out for lower middle-market companies. But family-owned businesses can be decades old, passed down several generations. In my former Vistage group, one of our member's Texas-based company was founded over 140 years old, passed down over five generations of family members. Think about that - the company started in the 1860s, right after Texas became a state in 1845.
Many of these companies are now run by Baby Boomers, who've survived many economic downturns, political upheavals, high interest rates, the Covid bug and more. They're reaching an age where they need to decide - should they continue passing the company down to the next generation, executing a business strategy of succession. Or should they hire an exit planner and work hard to get their company built to sell, maximizing their financial performance and enterprise value for a downstream, lucrative business exit. What strategies make sense? How do they go through an effective strategic planning session to determine their options? As you can surmise, this session is good for every business owner and advisor who's been in these circumstances, regardless of whether or not they're family-owned. Look forward to seeing you at this monthly meeting - bring your questions for this can't miss session.
